Trip Highlights

Awe-inspiring natural beauty and outdoor adventure await as we explore Alaska’s varied landscapes and noteworthy cities. From Denali, Wrangell-St. Elias, and Kenai Fjords national parks, to the energy of Anchorage and scenic Seward, our small group encounters the breadth and beauty of America’s Last Frontier.

Itinerary

Day 1

Depart for Anchorage, Alaska

We depart today for Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city. Upon arrival, we check in to our centrally located hotel then have time to explore on our own. As guests’ arrival times may vary, we have no group activities or meals planned.

Accommodations: Anchorage Marriott Downtown

Day 2

Anchorage/Denali National Park

This morning we meet our Odysseys Unlimited Tour Director and fellow travelers at a welcome briefing about the journey ahead. Then we depart by motorcoach for Denali National Park and Preserve, the wilderness area that is Alaska’s – and America’s – true Last Frontier. We first travel to quaint Talkeetna, a town of less than 1,000 that was incorporated in 1916 as a district headquarters for the Alaska Railroad, and whose downtown is now a National Historic Site. Following in the footsteps of the town’s founders, we board a deluxe domed railcar and head north into the park. Our four-hour journey provides us with panoramic views of Alaska’s dramatic landscape; we pass rushing rivers, snow capped mountains, and rolling tundra. Upon arrival in Denali late this afternoon, we visit the Denali Education Center and enjoy a special interpretive presentation, “Welcome to the SubArctic,” which gives us a foundational understanding of the history, ecology, and wildlife of the park. We then check into our lodge, where we have time to freshen up before we dine together at a local restaurant.

Accommodations: Denali Park Village Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Dinner
