Leah Robinson

Leah E. Robinson, Ph.D., FACSM is the Chair and Associate Professor of Movement Science in the School of Kinesiology and a Research Associate Professor in the Center for Human Growth and Development at the University of Michigan. She joined the Michigan faculty in January 2015 and before, she was faculty at Auburn University (2007 – 2014). Her academic training is in human motor development, exercise science, and child development (Ohio State University, 2007) and her research take a developmental perspective to motor skill acquisition, physical activity, and developmental health in preschool- and school-age children. Dr. Robinson’s research focuses on understanding the underlying mechanisms of motor skill acquisition and exploring how to improve the proficiency of motor skills through the implementation of interventions. Even as an administrator, she keeps an active research program that is balanced with exceptional student mentoring, teaching, and service. She has over 80 peer-reviewed published manuscripts articles, 6 book chapters, and 2 policy reports while mentoring Ph.D. students and Postdoctoral Fellows while serving on professional/scientific and university committees. Her research is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health – National Heart Lung and Blood Insitute (~$2.7 million, 2016-21), NIH-The Common Fund (~$167K, 2017-18), and the Department of Education (~$1.2M, 2016-21). Her previous research was funded by the NIH-National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Dr. Robinson has engaged in two academic and research excursion ‘down under’ that includes a 3-month research fellowship from the Australian Department of Education and Training and a 1-month summer abroad course at the University of Wollongong for 15 Movement Science students.
