This morning, your guide will show you the highlights of Calgary on a tour of “The Stampede City,” before the group makes a special foray to the glacially-fed Moraine Lake. Next, drive to the village of Lake Louise where you’ll have numerous options for lunch on your own. Reconvene with the group to enjoy a locally guided tour where you’ll learn the history of this chateau-style resort located in the heart of Banff National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Afterward, check in to your hotel room and relax in the ambiance of the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, or perhaps take a stroll along the lake before dinner.

Lake Louise / Icefields Parkway / Jasper National Park
Journey north on the Icefields Parkway and admire spectacular vistas of alpine meadows, waterfalls, and glacier masses. Learn how glaciers are formed, and understand the geological features as you take a memorable ride over the Columbia Icefield in the safety and comfort of an Ice Explorer. Step out onto ice that has been forming from snow falling as long as 200 years ago and feeds into The Continental Divide and out to three separate oceans. Continue on to Jasper National Park, the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies, and perhaps choose to join an optional guided raft trip on the Athabasca River.

Jasper National Park / Maligne Lake
After breakfast, enjoy a fully-narrated cruise on Maligne Lake. At world-famous Spirit Island, photograph surrounding ridges against the lake’s glacier-fed blue waters. Afterward, return to Jasper to explore the town, perhaps shop at some of its specialty stores, and enjoy lunch on your own. The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure. Choose to take an optional nature walk along the edge of Maligne Canyon—the deepest accessible canyon in Jasper National Park; or simply take the time to enjoy the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, offering a scenic golf course where Hollywood greats like Marilyn Monroe, Robert Mitchum, and Bing Crosby are known to have played.

Jasper / Yoho / Banff National Parks
This morning, stop at thundering Athabasca Falls before continuing your sightseeing with visits to Banff and Yoho National Park. See the towering rock walls and powerful waterfalls—the inspiration for Yoho’s name: a Cree word meaning awe and wonder. The Natural Bridge spanning Kicking Horse River—sculpted by the erosive rushing water—is an impressive demonstration of natural forces. Arrive in Banff and enjoy the evening at your leisure.

Marvel at the six mountain ranges you can see as you ride up Sulphur Mountain on the Banff Gondola. Keep your camera close at hand for a scenic drive around Tunnel Mountain, and watch for elk, deer, and the unique landscape features of the Hoodoos and Bow River. With the afternoon at leisure, you’ll have the opportunity to take an optional helicopter flightseeing trip to see even more dramatic aerial views of the Rocky Mountains, or stroll the colorful streets of Banff. This evening, share photos and stories with your travel companions at a special farewell dinner.

Meet Your Trip Host
Allen Samuels graduated from the University of Illinois in1966 and has worked as an Industrial designer creating new products for thirty corporations over 52 years to include Corning, Bausch and Lomb, Westinghouse, Owens Illinois and 3M. Concurrent with his professional design practice he was a Professor at The University of Michigan, School of Art and Design since 1975 and served as the school’s dean from 1993-1999. He has earned a number of United States patents, grants and awards to include a shared National Science Foundation grant, an individual National Endowment for the Arts grant, a number of Industrial Designer’s Society of America product design awards and an international Reddot Award. In 2008 he retired from the University and he now works on self-initiated design research and design projects that deal with aging populations, disaster relief, the poor and the disabled.
